Halloween, Owls, Book Update and My Boyfriend

Happy Halloween

A touch of vintage.....

I finished LIFE AFTER DEATH last night & for me this is very Halloween appropriate, because I can't think of anything scarier than being in prison.  It broke my heart thinking of an 18 year old being sent to death row for a crime he did not commit.  Damien was in prison for 18 years enduring beatings, solitude and unjust inhumane treatment. It's a wonder he survived!  I don't think I would have been as strong. Thank you Damien for sharing your story.
PS. My youngest will be 18 in February & I can't imagine this happening to him!

Which leads to my "boyfriend" (ha ha I wish), Eddie  who recommended the book.  He was a big supporter in releasing Damien.  I'll be seeing him in concert this Sunday night!!!!  I can't wait.  On the bucket list to see Eddie.

Hearing The Blues

Good food, friends & family at our local Indian food  restaurant Taj Mahal while listening to good music!
A proud mama moment...getting ready to listen to my son Joe play bass with 2 of his music teachers.

Should have been more camera ready.  There were a lot of people out in great costumes later in the night.

Can You Really Call It Work?

I always admire this booth in the antique mall where I work.

A nice vignette of vintage shoes, hats, gloves and clothing.

And the adorable Molly who comes to work every day with her owner.

Like I said... IF I can really call it work!  More like a hobby.  I only officially help out 1 day a week.

This mall has over 90 dealers & 15,000 square feet of fun.

Into The Wild

I missed my girl so much, I drove up the mountain today to spend a few hours with the beauty.  After a nice lunch, she drove us in her jeep (like a wild woman) up a dirt, rocky road to look at the aspen trees.

I was a week too late to see the spectacular color.  Darn the windy week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We only spotted one critter.  I think the hunters are out scouting the area.
Lovely Day!!!

Sister Time

Sister Time
See this gorgeous sandwich?  If you want the freshest, melt in your mouth, homemade like mama food....go to Pana Bianco on North Central Ave. in Phoenix.

This was our first stop on sister day for Jill's birthday.

The arugula salad was out of this world earthy fresh with goat cheese, sweet pecans & an apple cider vinaigrette.

The chef came to our table to chat.  We were informed they grow their own wheat in Arizona & he took us to the back room where they have a mill (from Austria) to grind into flour.  I was impressed.

Next stop was the Heard Museum in downtown Phoenix.  I was most impressed with the squash blossom necklaces & believe it or not the bolo tie exhibit.  Sorry, no photos.

The sisters are getting old & were really party poopers on the shopping.  I did manage to get them into Anthropology, Z Gallery, Prada and Michael Kors which I think was our favorite.
I want these Michael Kors Python boots for motorcycle riding, but instead was practical & bought Dansko shoes for antiquing.

Late night dinner at The Parlor.  Very cool top rated in Phoenix restaurant.  The building used to be a beauty parlor, thus the name.  We shared octopus, cauliflower and a Hawaiian pizza all homemade ingredients.   So delicious!

Got my Sprinkles Cupcakes fix.  I suggested this for the birthday girl (but really for me ha!)

Hooked Rugs

I felt off-balance most of today & was really missing my daughter the beautiful college girl. Which started a crying jag..........

Oh Jennie I miss you!  So I called her & cried a bit more.  I really tried not to but I must be weak......

plus last night it was after 4:00 AM before I went to bed.........................

I think I soaked in the tub for 90 minutes trying everything to get sleepy...........

So after talking to Jennie, I went into her room/guest room which made me fell a little better.  This antique hooked rug was our inspiration in this room.  I have purchased several throughout the years & this one is my favorite.   I bought it at an estate sale a few years ago.    We hung it on the wall for the major art in the room.

Our house was built in the early 70's.  This is one of the completed rooms where we scraped the popcorn off the ceiling, updated the electrical, re-textured the walls, put in a wood floor & expanded the closet.

This is my second favorite hooked rug in my bedroom.  This one is from the early 1900's.

Thanks for letting me share.  I'm feeling somewhat better.

GiGi Young Vintage Party Dress

I think it's time to let someone else enjoy this GiGi Young party dress.  It's been in the back of my closet for several years.  It doesn't fit anyone in my household.  I love the peacock color and full skirt.  Let's face it.....I'm never going to get down to this size again!

But I can & do wear this vintage necklace.  It's probably one of my favorites, mostly because it is green.  A dear departed friend who owned an antique store gave this to me for one of my birthdays approximately 10 years ago.  A treasure!

Have a lovely day!  I'm back to organizing my closet.

Dreamy Eddie

Was having a fantastic dream about Eddie Vedder when I was rudely awakened by my husband.  I've been thinking about him (Eddie not hubby) all day!

If you want to watch a beautiful video of my boyfriend, ha ha, here is the link..........

Queen of the Day

How lucky am I?  Today 2 friends sent me vintage items to sell.  Thanks to T, she sent me a vintage apron still in the original packaging.  In my 25 years of being in the business, I have never found one in the package!  While in Iowa, she showed it to me & I was drooling.  I told her if she ever wanted to sell the apron, call me first.  What a sweetheart!

The fabric is in pristine condition!!!!!!!!!!!

The next item is a vintage Coca - Cola wood handled ice pick!
T was with me this summer when I bought a 1940's Coca - Cola red cooler, so she knew I would love this.  Vintage Coke items are hard to find at a good price.  Good job T!!!!!!!!!!

J bought these adorable milk glass spice jars with Holland motifs at a garage sale for $1.00.
What a bargain!  Thanks J.  I'm like a Queen with my own "pickers".  It doesn't have to be a million dollar item to make me happy.  I think it's more fun to find little treasures.

Lastly, a dress I ordered from Mod-Cloth arrived for my daughter.  So adorable!!!!

I Love Vintage

Purchased a Miriam Haskell vintage pin.  A nice find!  Miriam's jewelry was made from the 1920's - 1950's.  Many movie stars wore her jewelry.........

Another nice purchase, peacock ashtray stand from the Deco era.  This style was popular in hotel lobbies........

Some wild vintage ties spotted today while working in the antique mart.  I recently starting working 1 day a week where I have my booth.  It's interesting, but exhausting.

All I can think about right now SPRINKLES CUPCAKES!  I would kill for one...........

And here's Pawdee!  Somehow cats & pumpkins compliment each other.

I can't wait to go to bed.  A long tiring day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Enlightenment At The Dentist Office

"When the soul lies down in that grass the world is too full to talk about." Rumi

I had to practice a little Zen today while visiting the dentist.  What I thought was just going to be a routine cleaning and X-rays, turned into a 5 hour ordeal.

Luckily, the office is very modern with all the newest technology.  When my young looking dentist asked if I wanted to get my crown today, he wasn't kidding.  No molds, just a camera in the mouth.....then a machine makes it while you wait.  No temporary caps here.

Lots of X-rays, periodontal cleaning, plus a crown........I put my mind in a Zen state.  I was able to zone out and live through this ordeal.

Life's Pleasures

Hoping the weather will stay cool so I can wear my new London Fog raspberry coat along with the giant Ivanka Trump purse.

One of my greatest pleasures, nice & relaxed after pedi.

A few flea market finds.  I love the Deco necklace & dresses.
